My Process

Stages of Development

While each stage has its distinct responsibilities, I am able to work fluidly between stages to ensure the project remains on schedule. For instance, if the SME provides the content early but is still developing the interactive activities or assessment questions, I can begin storyboarding or even developing the main course content. This flexibility allows me to progress with the project while the SME continues to finalize the assessment components.

Discovery Phase

The development process begins with a thorough discovery phase. During this stage, I gather all necessary information to understand the project's scope, objectives, and constraints. This involves:

Planning and Design

Once the discovery phase is complete, I move on to planning and designing the instructional materials. This phase includes:

Development

In the development phase, the actual creation of the instructional materials takes place. This phase involves:

Implementation

The implementation phase focuses on delivering the developed materials to the learners. Key activities in this phase include:

Evaluation

Evaluation is a critical component of the instructional design process. This phase involves:

Using Asana

I rely on Asana to streamline and manage projects efficiently. It allows for seamless collaboration with team members and SMEs. Its progress tracking and reporting tools help me monitor project status and ensure everything stays on schedule. This use of Asana enhances my ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring efficient workflows and successful outcomes.

Project Setup and Task Organization

When project requests come through Asana, I convert them into project boards for tracking purposes. The setup of tasks can differ depending on the project's demand, but most tasks are organized by the steps in the development process. I have this set up as a template in Asana to increase efficiency when setting up the board:

Task Management and Collaboration

Tasks are assigned during the initial meeting based on deliverables and deadlines, which are discussed and set during this meeting, using the RACI chart. Columns are added to the project board to organize tasks by priority, development stage, deliverable type, and a timer category to track development time.

Most team members use Asana, so I tag collaborators in comments and set due dates for them. While we use Asana for internal communication, we also communicate outside of Asana when necessary. Each stage of development requires approval from SMEs and requestors, who are assigned specific approval tasks.

Tracking Progress

To track development, I use columns indicating the developmental stages: not started, in progress, internal review, external review, complete, on hold, and cancelled. The project board can also reflect the overall project status, such as in progress, on track, on hold, or complete.

By utilizing Asana for project setup, task management, collaboration, and progress tracking, I ensure a streamlined and efficient process for instructional design projects. This approach allows for clear communication, organized workflows, and effective monitoring of project stages.
